Amna Nawaz is a producer and video journalist with NBC News, currently based in the network's Washington DC bureau. She has worked in the Middle East, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Europe and her work has appeared on "NBC Nightly News," "The Today Show," "Dateline NBC," MSNBC, and MSNBC.com. Recent video journalism projects have taken her to Colombia to report on civilian landmine casualties, South Africa to report on the environment, economy, health issues and the arts, and Texas to report on a new subgenre of punk music.
Nawaz first joined NBC News in 2003 as a News Associate, working for each broadcast, the network news desk, and the New York Bureau. She later joined "Dateline NBC" where she worked on documentaries about the Global War on Terror, the potential for pandemic flu, and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Nawaz joined the network's Investigative Unit in 2006 where her team was recognized with a Business Emmy nomination for investigations into mortgage companies’ lending practices.
Prior to joining NBC News, Nawaz worked for "ABC News Nightline." She holds a Bachelor's degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Science degree with honors in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics.
